Two major Chinese companies plan to expand autonomous driving into Singapore. Chinese robotaxi Singapore projects will begin through partnerships with local transport operators.
Grab confirmed it will work with China’s WeRide to operate two shuttle routes in the Punggol area. Services will start in early 2026 using five- and eight-seater WeRide vehicles. A trial period will allow the vehicles to study the routes before taking on passengers.
Pony.ai announced a separate partnership with ComfortDelGro. The companies will operate autonomous shuttles on a 12-kilometre route in Punggol. They expect to begin services in the coming months once regulators approve the plan.
Singapore’s Land Transport Authority highlighted both WeRide and Pony.ai as experienced players in automated vehicle deployment. WeRide recently secured a permit in Shanghai to operate robotaxi ride-hailing services. Pony.ai already runs commercial robotaxis in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.
Pony.ai, backed by Toyota, is also exploring new markets including South Korea, Luxembourg, and the Middle East. After raising $260 million from its Nasdaq listing in November, the company set a goal to expand its fleet to 1,000 vehicles by the end of this year.
Singapore has been actively promoting autonomous driving technology. In June, Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow visited several Chinese firms to strengthen cooperation and explore future deployment. These partnerships mark another step in Singapore’s long-term vision for smart, driverless urban mobility.
