Live for AI Mode: Google’s Real-Time Search Assistant

1 min read

Google is building a new feature called “Live for AI Mode” to enhance voice-based Search. Found in the latest Google app beta (version 16.17), it offers real-time conversations with AI, similar to Gemini Live and Project Astra. However, its main focus is search rather than personal assistance.

Users can talk to AI in real time to find what they need. The feature includes a mute button to turn off the microphone and a close option to exit the session. Google prompts users to raise their volume to hear results clearly. You can also tap the screen to stop the AI mid-response.

“Live for AI Mode” integrates directly with Google Lens. This lets users search by voice while sharing their screen or video. There’s a transcript option so users can read the conversation and tap links that take them to related web pages.

Google labels this feature as experimental. It may make mistakes, and it doesn’t support follow-up questions. Each new voice input starts a separate search.

While the feature is active, Google shows a control notification. Users can mute the mic or end the session with a single tap. The system aims to deliver a hands-free, immersive search experience using voice and visual input together.

This update marks a shift toward more dynamic ways of searching. Google is combining voice, vision, and real-time interaction to redefine how people engage with Search.
