Teen Charged After £17K Worth of iPhones Stolen

1 min read

An 18-year-old woman now faces charges after iPhones stolen from an Apple store in Renfrew totaled more than £17,000. The thefts happened at Braehead shopping centre on two different dates — 1 June and 9 July. As a result, Police Scotland arrested the woman in connection with both incidents.

She is scheduled to appear in Paisley Sheriff Court on 2 October. In addition, police arrested a 19-year-old man for the June incident. Meanwhile, a 42-year-old woman was reported to prosecutors regarding the July theft. These developments suggest a coordinated effort rather than isolated actions.

Currently, Police Scotland is still investigating. They are reviewing CCTV footage, checking records, and interviewing those involved. Through these efforts, they hope to identify how the thefts were planned and whether others are connected.

This case highlights a growing pattern. Increasingly, high-value electronics — especially iPhones — are targeted in retail thefts. Because Apple products are both compact and expensive, they are ideal targets for criminals looking to resell items quickly.

Moreover, stores in busy shopping centres face added risk. Crowds make it easier for thieves to operate undetected. Therefore, retailers should consider tightening security policies and upgrading surveillance to deter similar crimes.

For buyers, this case serves as a reminder. Purchasing stolen iPhones can lead to serious problems, including locked devices and police involvement. Always verify the origin of used tech, especially when the deal seems too good to be true. Online tools like Apple’s Activation Lock checker can help confirm a device’s legitimacy.

Additionally, law enforcement continues to focus on organized theft rings. These groups often hit multiple locations and then move the stolen products quickly. By targeting resale platforms and tracking stolen inventory, authorities are working to disrupt these networks.

Although several arrests have been made, the investigation remains active. More individuals could face charges as new evidence emerges. Ultimately, police aim to recover the stolen goods and bring full accountability to those involved in the iPhones stolen from the Apple store.
